Your air conditioner is most likely one of the most important appliances in your home. It keeps your air clean, cool and comfortable. Although it’s possible to live without one, it would be miserable at times. Just like any appliance, air conditioners can develop problems over time without warning. If your system doesn’t seem like it’s working the way it used to, or you’re experiencing any of the common AC problems below and need an AC repair, contact us at Express Air.
1. Your system seems to be making weird noises.
Hearing unusual noises is one of the biggest signs something unusual is going on with your AC. Your AC system typically shouldn’t make any noises other than when it clicks on or off and blows air. Different types of noises can correlate with various problems within your system. If you’re unable to determine the weird sound or problem, give us a call at Express Air so we are able to assess the noise and give you our opinion.
2. The air blowing from your vents isn’t cooling down your home.
It’s very frustrating and inefficient to run your air conditioner if it’s not producing cool air. Usually, this problem indicates you’re in need of AC repair. If your system is blasting less than cool air, it could be an internal problem such as low refrigerant or dirty evaporator coils that need to be checked by one of our experts.
3. You can feel the cold air from your vents, but it’s barely blowing.
Lack of airflow from your vents can usually be prevented with AC maintenance. Dirty air filters, vents and return grates are common reasons for limited airflow. Your air conditioner easily accumulates dust from your home that can make it seem like it’s not blowing air at all. Clogged or damaged air ducts can also prevent flow and can leak air. Keep your vents and ducts clean, and change your air filters every few months to prevent this from happening often.
Try Resetting the Air Conditioner:
Learning how to reset your air conditioner gives you an easy way to reboot the system if it’s having trouble, just as you would with your wifi-router or computer when it has problems.
But why would you ever want to reset your air conditioning unit? In the case of a power outage, your AC unit may not fully kick on due to the protection circuit breaker preventing fires and explosions. Another reason you may want to reset your AC unit is if it’s set to “cool” but isn’t blowing cool air.
Below is a common step-by-step guide on how to reset the air conditioner with a reset button:
- The obvious first step is finding the reset button. Most units have one on them. It’s usually fairly small and red. If you can’t find it, consult your AC’s manual to see where the button is located.
- Unplug your unit from the wall for at least 15 seconds and plug it back in.
- Next, hold the reset button down for three seconds and release it. If the unit doesn’t kick on, repeat this step.
- If this still doesn’t work, locate your circuit breaker panel and try flipping the one connected to the AC unit. Chances are, by this point, your unit will have kicked on.
If your unit doesn’t have a reset button:
- Some units do not have a reset button, so you’ll have to reset the system manually. First, find the power shut off near your outdoor compressor unit and flip it from on to off.
- Next, you’ll need to find the 240-volt circuit. This is located in the main electrical panel inside your home. Switch this circuit to off.
- Just to ensure all power is removed from your unit, unplug it from the power supply board.
- In order for the charge to dissipate out of the unit, you need to leave it unplugged and switched off for at least 20 – 30 minutes.
- After waiting, make sure your unit is set to “cool” and plug the unit back into the power supply. Switch the 240-volt circuit back on and do the same to the power shut off near the compressor outside. It’s important to follow this order, as you are just working backward from how you turned it off the first time.
